Professor Potekaev is currently Director of Scientific and Practice Centre of Dermatology and Venereology of the Moscow Department of Healthcare.
He is President of the National Alliance of Dermatologists and Cosmetologists, Member of the Board of Directors of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) from the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Department of the European Committee Melanoma Day (EMD), and an associate of the German Society of Dermatologists and Venereologists (DDG).
 
Professor Potekaev is the Editor-in-Chief of the scientific and practical journal Clinical Dermatology and Venereology, deputy editor of Experimental and Clinical Dermatology and Cosmetology, and  member of the board of editors of Farmateka journal, as well as being the author of  more than 310 scientific papers and 12 monographs.
 
In addition, he is Organizer of the Day of Early Diagnosis of Melanoma, a member of the Expert Grand Commission of the Awards Council of the President of the Russian Federation, an expert of the Commission for Health and Environmental Care of the Public Chamber of the President of the Russian Federation,  member of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission,  the Expert Commission on Dermatology and Venereology of the Federal State Institution for the Evaluation of Medicines and Medical Technology of Roszdravnadzor,  the Specialist Commission on Dermatology and Venereology of the Ministry for Healthcare and Social Development.
 
He is the organizer of the widespread implementation of an entire set of non-invasive methods of diagnoses of skin diseases in Russian dermatological and cosmetological practice, and has utilized many treatment methods, including plasmapherisis in therapy for serious forms of rosacea, fluconazole therapy of onychomycosis in patients with HIV, photodynamic therapy for acne, selective pulse phototherapy of vascular and pigment neoplasms, excimer laser treatment of psoriasis and vitiligo, among others.
